A gym at home, even if you invest thousands on equipments, will be limited to bodybuilding exercises that you can actually do when you are at gym. However, there are many exercises which can be done with just a few pieces of equipment. The equipment that you will purchase will be determined by the amount of space available and of course your pocket plays a major role.
For the ones living in apartments, there might not be enough space for a bench. In that case, you can still do a decent workout using just a pair of adjustable dumbbells.
You can do bicep curls, shoulder presses, triceps extensions, lunges, squats and rows with just a bit of floor space and a pair of dumbbells. Whilst you may not be able to lift as hard as you could within a proper gym, but will be happy to know that you can still build muscle tone. You can work towards your chest by doing the pushups. And anyways the abs does not require any fancy equipment.
Another useful (and economical) part of equipment is the chin-up bar. By fitting this into a crossbeam or door frame, you can concentrate on some of those bodybuilding exercises that work the muscles.
Advantages of Bodybuilding workout at homeFinally, it is possible to blow thousands on multi-station pulley equipment or the types of things you see on commercials and if you want to work hard enough to require that much equipment, honestly you will be better off joining a gym.
Perhaps the major difficulty with bodybuilding/exercising from home is to maintain the discipline and rigor required. Above all, there are instances wherein it is easy to get distracted while bodybuilding at home. To avoid such cases you need to set a time for yourself when you can workout everyday. You should do your bodybuilding exercises without switching on the TV unless you are watching some kind of bodybuilding program, in order to reduce distraction.
Another plus point of going to the gym is that you are surrounded by people of the same mindset and who are there for the same purpose. Thus, you can use their efforts as well to push yourself harder and achieve/gain more on bodybuilding tips. You also get an added benefit of an instructor who is present throughout your workout hours to ensure better safety.
